Monday night activity

I love the Friend magazine. Often it is our source for FHE. In fact all three magazines have family home evenings that are almost ready at a glance. Here is a fun example of what we did on Monday night. We read a story called "Let it Go".
It was about a girl who was hurt, because she was the only girl in her class who was not invited to a birthday party. As a family activity her mother got some balloons and they all wrote the things that troubled them that they were having a hard time forgiving. We thought this story lead into a great activity, so we went to the store and picked up a balloon for each member of our family. Each person wrote or drawled on their balloon. No names were written and we did not share what we wrote on our balloons. Then one by one we let them all go.
I had a hard time coming up with things to write on mine, but managed to come up with some. It is a funny thing to explain, but when it was my turn to let go, I didn't want to. I wanted to hold on to my balloon and worries. For that small moment I was able to see how we often want to harbor resentments or even cling to our sins. Yet when I finally let go, I had a peaceful feeling. DG

I loved this story too! We are doing a sharing time on forgiveness at the end of the month.... I wish I could get helium balloons on a Sunday.. Oh I think I might be able to do it. Do you think the bishop will approve? Ha ha!
