I love my cricut

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Here are some of the cards I have made using my Cricut. I don't like to lug it out and the mess I create, so I don't do it as often as I would like, but I sure do have fun when I use it. I have decided to make these cards for a couple of reasons. There is a blog I follow called christmaswiththecricut (link here). It as lots of ideas, some I have imitated so I can remember them and some I just did on my own. Most of these were done using my cricut and design studio, so I could tweek things. I am not the most crafty girl, but feel that trying to imitate what I see out there has improved my skills. There are a few more things I want to make before I put it all away for a while. I will blog those soon, so I can remember what I made, in case I want to do it again.

Testing to see if this works

Saturday, November 21, 2009

After the other video I posted of Matthew, I wanted to try to figure out how to do it better. After all a dark sideways video is not what I call wonderful by any means. So here I am trying to give a go again. I hope I fixed the dark and sideways problem. Next I think I need to learn how to edit videos. Any software recommendations. (lower the cost the better)

Mr sings a song

So this is my first attempt with video. I need lessons for Allison. It is off my cell phone about a month ago during family home evening. Matthew did not want us to sing an opening song. Instead he wanted to do a solo. Sorry it is sideways and dark. I just love to hear him sing. It is usually this song or a Hannah Montana dance song that he sings, though tonight he was making up his own songs with dance moves. Too bad I did not record that.

The update on the scoop

Thursday, November 12, 2009

Thanks for all the comments. The winners each had two answers correct. It is a three way tie for Jef, Jeni and Amanda. We will get the cookies out as soon as all are well for a number of days. After all there are somethings that shouldn't be shared. Jef, I will drop off your cookies at your mom's.

Questions about our family
1. How many of us have been sick with the flu this week?
When I posed this question, the answer was three. We thought Shaun had it, but then he didn't it was his mysterious other thing he has had since August, and now yesterday it looks like he does, so hmm. I will take the answers 3 or 4.

2. What other ailment did someone have this week (not last week for those paying attention)?
The answer here was kidney stones, again Shaun thought he had kidney stones, but he has yet to pass anything and we are hoping it was just a fluke. Anyway the DR ordered another CAT Scan, which he had today to see what has been going on for the last while in that area. The stones/ pain came about a week after his headache procedure. I really think he deserves a break for a while.

3. Who went to the hospital this week?
Abigail went to the hospital last Tuesday. She got dehydrated and could not hold anything down every time she coughed. She is the only child of ours to ever have to get an IV due to sickness. They never tested her for the swine flu, but I noticed in the paperwork that they send you home with, that it listed dehydration and the swine flu. The hospital was pretty boggled that she had not had a fever and no one really knew what type of flu she had. Matthew and I both had a mild fever and it is still too early to tell for Shaun. We have found it takes about 9 days to get over this (if you don't count the lingering cough, which we all still have). Shaun has had it offically two days now, and plans to go to work tomorrow. I think it may be safer for everyone else to call in sick. Hopefully he just has a mild case and he is fine tomorrow. He plans to rest lots this weekend and be completely well in record time.

4. Who is the only person to not have gone to the hospital in the last 365 days?
Every one but me have been to the hospital in the last year.
Anna tonsils- Nov '08
Matthew a burn Aug '09
Abigail dehydration Nov '09
Shaun, well do we really need to list all that

5. How many times has Shaun been under anesthesia in the last year?
The answer here is six, and it looks like there is no end in site. Our goal is to be none at all for next year, but the DR's don't think that is too likely.

There was one question I forgot to list. Who has been going around the house with a bottle of bleach water and gloves? Most of you think that the answer to that is me, but it is not. It was Shaun. Everyday last week he faithfully bleached the doors, handles and counters. One day I opened the cupboard to get a bowl and he immediately wiped it down. I even had washed my hands before touching it. I guess it was not enough, because he is sick now. Next time I worry he might bleach us. Though Matthew is the likely contaminator. He keep asking dad to hold him and as he got feeling better he got into everything, making the bleaching an impossible task.

Well that is about all the excitement we will share now. The one thing I know is change is one of the few constants in life. Anna is the only one to stay well and we hope she stays that way.
Thanks for all your concern.

The Scoop

Thursday, November 5, 2009

So the last couple of weeks have really tested the health on our family. I wanted to blog about it, yet I don't want to come across as complaining, so I thought I would turn it into a question session. Feel free to answer the questions. All comments will be published in one week. Person with the most correct answers will win a batch of cookies. If no comments are left, then there will be no cookies and my family would be pretty sad, because I make great cookies. You really don't want to make them sad. Answers will be revealed in about one week. If you don't know the answer, you might as well use some creativity.

Well that pretty much sums up. Hoping tomorrow is a new day to a healthy everyone.

Latest surgery procedure

Sunday, November 1, 2009

Well most of you know that Shaun had another procedure last Tuesday. They seem to be a regular occurrence for us. The doctor thinks this may be a regular event for him. He has a healthy nerve that regrows rather quickly and the headaches come back each time. This time they came on with a vengeance. Though we still hold to a hope that one day the nerve will grow back and there be no pain at all.

I am not sure why they sometimes cauterize the nerve with one needle or two, but this time there is a third needle that was used and can be seen in the right top picture. We would not have even noticed it in the pictures, except for the fact we saw the three injection points on his shoulder. Not sure what it did, but it was not near the near area, so must have been for something else.

Any way, because they insert the needles from the shoulder up to the top of the neck (actually the third vertebrae from the top), he of course has had a bunch of neck pain and swelling. He is now in phase two which is the feeling of burning. This is a pretty painful stage. He describes it as though he has a severe burn on impacted area of the neck. If he keeps laying down and ices lots and takes his medications, the pain does not radiate to the rest of his neck. For the most part his vertigo dizziness is mostly gone, which is nice.

Anyhow he hopes to return to work soon. As they are down an another employee and there is only one employee at work handling the work of three. None the less, he knows that if he pushes it to soon then the pain and swelling flairs up and healing takes twice as long.
